Our Children and Young People's team enjoyed lots of activities this February half term
25 Feb 2021
We have continued working in eye clinics within local hospitals supporting children, young people and their families on their sight loss journey.
This week we supported mum Rachel and James at his Paediatric eye clinic appointment. Having someone they know to support them in a clinical environment reduces that anxiety in both the parent and child.
James's mum said; "Thank you so much for this morning Paula, I cannot tell you how much it means to me that you helped. It went so well; I am really pleased."
Two months in, over 150 families have had access to our support.
Virtual sessions
We been having lots of fun and laughter in our half term virtual sessions, we had Oksana bringing Mardi Gras dancing and pancake flipping fun! Children/young people joined in with making Mardi Gras inspired masks and flipped pancakes in a pan, then sat and ate pancakes with all different delicious toppings.
One of the parent's said;“Florence and her brother really enjoyed hearing about what others have been doing and my Florence sees her friend on there too! Florence really looks forward to the sessions each week. It’s great to see the interactions and engagement and I love hearing the giggles.”
We had Eleanor from Chiltern Music Therapy deliver a music session for us. The theme was love so Vista's Children and Young People's group brought the toys and things that they love. We sang, danced, and listened to some beautiful love songs played by Eleanor and even had a squeak from squeaky the guinea pig!
We continue to deliver 15 virtual sessions a month to the children, young people and families who we support. To find out more about Vista's children's and young people team activities, please visit https://www.vistablind-cyp.org.uk/young-people/
